Who am I? Well for starters my name is Jaida Carter.

Growing up I was involved in many different sports which led me to want to be a physical education teacher. I started off doing gymnastics but before I got the chance to continue progressing I switched over to cheerleading for the community football team that my brother played for. During the spring I joined him in playing flag football since I attended all the games and practices anyway.

In elementary school I participated in cross country and track and field but my journey in running ended once I got to high school. In grade 7 my love for volleyball started and continued as the only sport I played through school. When I reached grade 10 I decided to join club volleyball but unfortunately the pandemic cut my last season short and my playing all together.

It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided to start coaching at the club I played for. Although I don’t competitively play the sport anymore, I have been able to find so much joy in teaching young athletes to love volleyball as much as I did and to develop their skills as much as they can.

Coaching has really fueled my desire to teach Physical Education as it means I can coach the school teams as well as club volleyball. At Douglas College I am in the Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching program which is preparing me for enrollment into a PDP program so that I can begin teaching at the secondary level. Every class I take is preparing me to go into a profession that I will enjoy and have fun doing.

When I am not going to school or coaching I work as a supervisor at a local pizza shop that is only a five-minute walk from my house. Like anyone I try and stay as active as I can but with a busy lifestyle it can be challenging, so having the ability to walk to work keeps my body moving even when I don’t have the option to go for a workout. However, at the end of the day I do enjoy getting off my feet and lounging around.
