The main goal I want to achieve after finishing school is to become a P.E. teacher at a secondary school. I need to complete the Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching (BPEC) program at Douglas College, which requires me to complete 128 course credits. I have completed 56.5 course credits which means I have 2.5 more years until the requirements are met. My estimated graduation is the summer of 2026.
The next step in achieving my goal is completing a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree at UBC. I need at least a 2.5 gpa, 100 volunteer hours with the age group I want to teach and all the required courses to be completed before I can be admitted into the program for fall 2026. All these requirements are completed during the BPEC program which will set me up for future success. If I am not accepted into UBC I will complete the Professional Development Program (PDP) at SFU. The requirements for SFU are similar to UBC but I will need a second teachable subject which I will complete simultaneously with the BPEC program.
Once I complete the BEd degree or PDP program I can obtain a B.C. Ministry of Education teaching certificate that will allow me to teach my desired age group in B.C. At this point I will have completed all the necessary steps in becoming a P.E. teacher and I will choose to apply to jobs right away or take a year break to travel before starting my career.
